Luton Town Ladies were back at home for the first time in 3 weeks and were looking for a strong response to the late equaliser at Stevenage, last weekend.
It didn’t take long for Luton Ladies to take the lead. 6 minutes in, Elizabeth Sanders squeezed her way through the Kings Lynn defence, took the ball around the keeper and put the ball into the empty net.
7 minutes later and Luton doubled their lead. Captain, Jess McKay fired a shot at goal, which was saved well by the Kings Lynn keeper, but the ball fell at the backpost to Shanice Lewis, who had a simple tap in.
The Hatters then scored a third, 3 minutes later, this time through Fiona Buttigieg. Sanders had all the time in the world in the box, but instead of taking the shot on, she unselfishly laid the ball off to Buttigieg who poked the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.
20 minutes in and Luton made their first change of the half. Youngster, Mimi Ouacel was replaced by fellow youngster Gabriella Spillman who scored her first league goal for The Hatters last weekend against Stevenage.
With 12 minutes remaining of the first half Leyah Maddix scored Luton’s fourth. She picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired the ball into the back of the net, giving the keeper no chance.
Luton almost got a fifth just before the break, Spillman played the ball across the face of the goal, but the bounce went against Lewis, denying her a second.
The ball had barely got rolling in the second half and it was in the back of the net again. Sanders claimed her brace, she took the ball around the keeper and did well to convert from a tight angle.
Spillman had 2 chances around the 50th minute mark, the first she hit just wide of the far post and the next was fired into the side netting. Amber Pearson attempted to get in on the goal scoring but her shot, from just outside the box, went wide of the post.
The 68th minute saw Luton get their sixth. This time it was McKay. Kiera Palmiero set up her captain, who fired in on the volley.
Nancy Tucker was taken off after 72 minutes and was replaced by debutant, Amber Leighton.
Tsaianne Leander was next to get in on the goals. A quick fire brace gave Luton an 8-0 lead. The first was set up by Spillman, who drove into the box, picking out Leander for a simple tap in. The second came from a fantastic ball over the top from McKay, which Leander showed great composure to slot past the keeper
With 5 minutes left to play, Sanders got her hattrick, through on goal, she made no mistake with the finish, slotting the ball home for 9-0.
Just before the 90 minute mark Leander became the second player to score a hattrick. Sanders played the ball across the goal and Leander made no mistake with the finish, scoring her 3rd and Luton’s 10th. Luton regained possession straight away from kick off and Sanders stuck the ball past the Kings Lynn keeper to get her fourth of the match.
