Being an avid fantasy football manager for many years. The last few days have been exciting. I can finally triple up on Luton! I’m going to run through the released player prices and give you my initial opinion on who to own and who to avoid.
Goalkeepers.
It’s a mess, pretty similar to in real life. Luton are expected to sign 1 if not 2 goalkeepers before the season starts. Shea comes in the most expensive at £4.5m with both Walton and Macey at £4m. It’s a massive avoid until closer to the start of the season.
Defenders
Unlike the GK position, there are options in defence. The standout is Alfie Doughty £4.5m. The LWB has decent attacking potential having recorded 2 goals and 7 assists last season in all competitions. Gabe Osho also comes in at £4.5m but I’m not convinced he’s a nailed on starter.
The remaining defenders all come in at £4m which could offer decent value as a 15th man or last bench option. Bell would probably be the best of the bunch.
Midfielders
The midfielders have been split into two prices £5 and £4.5m. I’m going to be honest, I’m not thrilled by Luton’s midfielders when I’m looking at it from a fantasy persuasion. They just don’t put up the goal or assist numbers regularly enough to warrant being picked. If I had to choose I would lean towards Clark at £5m. Who is sometimes on set pieces and did record 4 goals and 4 assists in all competitions last season.
Forwards
Unsurprisingly Morris is Luton’s most expensive player in FPL at an eye watering £5.5m, obviously, I jest it’s a great price for a player who offers far more than just goals. Morris finished last season scoring 20 goals and 7 assists. Straight in my team.
Adebayo and new signing Ogbene both come in at £5m, fair prices when you compare them with Morris. There is a tinge of disappointment Ogbene didn’t get classified as a midfielder who plays upfront. Woodrow and Taylor both received £4.5m price tags both could get minutes throughout the season.
Summary
To summarize, avoid GKs until Luton make signings. In defence, Doughty is a great option at £4.5m, and one of the other £4m defenders could provide value as a bench option. Not a fan of the midfielder options. Morris is a great option but I don’t hate taking a punt on Adebayo.
